In the beginning...

Hello!

Last year around this time I decided to get my Canadian Amateur radio license.  I joined KWARC and signed up for their beginners class.  The classes were mainly motivation to keep moving through the study text: 9th Edition Canadian Amateur Radio Basic Qualification Study Guide from Coax Publications and provide a deadline to write the exam.  I had tried working through the study guide on my own in the past and stalled out in a few different places.  Having regular meetings to review concepts and ask questions really helped.

Once through the study guide, I found the Industry Canada practice tests a great resource to keep up to speed and get extra practice before writing the exam.  The iOS App Ham Basic was another great tool to quiz on the go.

In June I passed the exam with a high enough score for a Basic with Honours designation which grants the privilege of using all Amateur frequency bands in Canada.  I chose VA3KXS as my call sign and the journey began.
